Currently, permanent residents (non-citizens) can join the U.S. Military. Do you think this should be allowed? Share Your Views

FROM JUST A DREAM TO REALITY

Of course. You know it's almost every youth's dream outside US to join the US army, and that includes me too. In my humble opinion, I think non US citizens should be given a chance to join the US army. Personally I have tried to apply online to join the US army but in vain. It's a dream I am still nurturing up now and hoping that one of these days it's gonna turn into a reality and hopefully when it does then I will say that dreams come true after all.

Son of Filipino World War II Veteran

With the absence of amending law, we sons of Filipino WW II can't acquire US citizenship but, allowing us to join the military would simplify and fast track the process. I respectfully urge the military Commanders to give this a priority.

The Irish and the Corps

I'm an irish man and live in a small town. In desert storm a young man from my town was killed serving in the Marine Corps. I have a distant cousin who is serving in the Corps. I have friends who have family serving in the U.S Army. The Irish are renowned for their professionalism, courage and determination when serving in military forces, regardless of what country they come from. Many Irish serve in the British military, Australian military and the U.S military. I think it should be easier for citizens of countries who have excellent relationships with the U.S to join the U.S military.

Let them Join

Guess what, if they are in the military and recieving pay, they are also paying taxes. Many illegals/non-citizens are in this country, collecting welfare, working under the table, and not paying any taxes. If every illegal/non-citizen wasn't allow to collect welfare and had to pay taxes, there wouldn't be a national debt. The government would have a huge surplus. I say, let illegals and non-citizens join the military. Better yet, it they sign a 10 year contract, give them citizenship. They've earned it at that point. If their in the military, we know where they are, they are paying taxes, and their not leeching off the welfare system. I believe there should be a military program that allows illegals/ non-citizens to become citizens through military service.
