being a 25B

I have been doing this for a little over 3 years now, and I must say if you are looking for something to help further an outside career, 25B is the way to go. I have done a range of things from setting up computers and phones, to being an system administrator over the entire networking equipment. Being a 25B is being more skilled in the networking side of communications which is one of the largest growing areas in the world today, so you wont have to worry about a major job loss outside the army.

Gotta love it

I was a 31L then 31U then 25U, it didn't matter though, all commo got treated the same. I was very versatile. I started in Field Artillery, went to Forscom, then Infantry, then Military police. So you have to be flexible. I was deployed two times, kicked in doors one time with the Inf. and second kicked in doors with the MP's. The only reason I'm out now is because I got injured in Iraq. So, if you're looking for action with the option the lay back and on top of that good experience for the civilian world, 25U is the way to go! I love it!

security clearance

i just enlisted as a 25v and it was the only MOS in the 25 series that did not require a security clearance. and my AIT is 26 weeks and 4 days.

best MOS in the Army

Ive been a 25U for a few years now and I have deployed as a Uniform and I love it. It is hands down the best MOS in the Army. If you gain a reputation for being competant that you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you like being in the field from time to time doing field work but would also like to have a technical job, 25U is the way to go. 25U LEADS THE WAY

25V Army

As far as I know, you need a Secret Clearance. It is requirement for MOS 25V. The 26 weeks are actually 27-28 and the course is divided in two separate classes: video and still.

Good Job

It's a very good job. I was 25B with TACSAT and SigOps in the mountains. Not boring when down range.

Not bad...but...

Ive been a 31R/25Q for 3 yrs, Im in Korea at the moment and am the NCOIC for 4 25Q's and 2 25B's...the upside is that the points for Sgt are low (350 or so), you can get a decent job in the civilian sector, and Commo can go anywhere..the downside is its boring, you set up your equipment and monitor it...thats it...even in Iraq...and if you attached to any other unit besides a commo one..your just another commo guy. Sometimes you dont even do your job...once your equipment is up...your tasked to do a myriad of other things...which breaks up the monotany but still...it has to get better than this....Its great for most people but if you hate bein bored and sittin around...do somethin not commo related...
—Guest 25Q Sgt

31R/25Q

It's a good job. I ETS'd after a few deployments, now work for AT&T, was hired even before I started terminal leave. Learned a bunch.

Location

Fort Gordon is not in VA, it is in Georgia and it's the armpit of the Army.
—Guest SGT Mc

I was a 31F (now 25F)

Great job when deployed to Iraq, spent 12 hour shifts in an air-conditioned SEN van with telephone and internet connections. Make sure you get some civilian certifications while enlisted so you can jump straight from the Army to a good paying career. You don't want to wait long after ETS'ing, your security clearance will expire and that's what makes you desirable to many of the civilian organizations.

the army

wow......the job was great.....but the army ruins it, the army is SOOOOO political now and the rank structure is all who you know.......i came in as a 31F and never worked in my actual MOS for 6 years
—Guest fta

Uniforms lead the way

You can be stationed anywhere and put in any slot for your S6 Commo shop.. Its Good to be universal

25B

I am 25B and i enjoy my job. There is so much to learn both in AIT and in the real Army. Technology is constantly evolving and therefore one can never learn too much. Also the education you gain and sets you up for a very bright future. So being a computer nerd has its benefits

The best MOS in the Army

I have been a 25B for 14 years (Prevous designations were 39G, then 74B). Every assignement has been a truly interesting experience. I have operated and maintained IBM Mainframes, Video Teleconferencing Centers, worked in technical control facilities (installing and maintaining telecom and data circuits from wiring, to installing and configuring routers and switches to configuring COMSEC devices for encryption). I've also worked on SATCOM equipment, to NATO WAN devices. You will run IT helpdesks (which includes everything from configuring and installing hardware and software, to managing domains (AD and group policy) and websites. 25B's also run the point in the current Cyber War. Your potential is unlimited.

Get job to have but know your job.Be able to perform when called on.AIT is a little different than your actual duty job but per-fect what you learn.......Radio's and SKL'sand BTF's are your main equipments.
—Guest supersoilder

Actually

Its 33.5 weeks so far with three weeks waiting to get into school and an additional three weeks doing JNN training after graduation from Vincent Hall. I have been in 305 days and just graduated school last week. I have three more weeks of JNN...then I will be done with school. The first half school "common core" is 15 weeks lol...
