The AN / PEQ-2 is a state-of-the-art laser sight that is widely used by the U.S. military across a number of different weapons.
The AN / PEQ-2 is a laser sight manufactured by Insight Technology, Inc., an optical device manufacturer based in New Hampshire. The AN/ PEQ-2 is designed to be sued with military rifles that are equipped with a "Picatinny Rail," a bracket or mounting rail on top of the rifle that is also known as a "Tactical Rail." The laser sight conforms to military specifications and is used by the U.S. military for targeting enemies and objects.
The AN / PEQ-2 is used as part of the U.S. military’s Special Operations Peculiar Modification (SOPMOD) kit, an accessory system for M4A1 carbon rifle and FN SCAR Mk-16 rifle used by U.S. Special Forces. The AN / PEQ-2 has two infrared lasers. The first is a narrow beam used for aiming a rifle. The second is a wide beam that is used for illuminating objects – similar to a flashlight. Each beam is only visible using night vision goggles. This helps prevent enemies from seeing the lights. The AN / PEQ-2 can be used in water up to a depth of 20 meters.
