Airpower Overview
Aviation forces of the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps—composed of fighter/attack, conventional bomber, and specialized support aircraft—provide a versatile striking force capable of rapid employment worldwide.

Aircraft Overview
All aircraft are built with the same basic elements: wings to provide lift, engine(s) to provide motive power, a fuselage to carry the payload and controls, and a tail assembly which usually controls the direction of flight. These elements differ in shape, size, number, and position. The differences distinguish one aircraft type from another.

First Carrier-based Arrested Landing X-47B
On July 10 history was made when a tailless unmanned atonomous aircraft landed on a modern aircraft carrier for the first time. The X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System (UCAS) demonstrator completed the first carrier-based arrested landing on board USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) off the coast of Virginia. This test marked an historic event for naval aviation that Navy leaders believe will impact the way the Navy integrates manned and unmanned aircraft on the carrier flight deck in the future.
