There are no DoD schools aboard MCRD San Diego or in the greater San Diego area. San Diego County is home to more than 40 K-12 public school districts as well as private and parochial schools. To enroll a child in public school, he or she must reach the age of five by December 2nd of the year of enrollment. Enrollment requirements include a complete physical, a copy of the child's birth certificate, shot records, and proof of residence. Proof of residence may be proved by your rent/lease agreement, or sometimes by a utility bill. It would be to your advantage to contact your school district, or even the school your child will be attending, to verify what they require.
Federal and State laws require all public school districts to provide a "free, appropriate and individualized education for all handicapped children". Both Federal and State legislation mandate time lines for referral, assessment, certification, placement, and provisions of appropriate services to all students with exceptional needs.
