Child Care
There are no on installation childcare programs available. MCCS currently relies on the NACCRRA Childcare in Your Neighborhood in Kansas City. Chilcare subsidy may be obtained through a partnership with the Bannister Federal CDC. All Active Duty members of all branches of military, DoD Civilians (APF and NAF), and DoD contractors are authorized to use this service.

Local school districts offer Head Start programs and kindergarden prepratory.

Contact MCCS for information on community resources for New Parent Support. Personnel with special needs children should contact the Exceptional Family Member Support Program manager for assistance.

Marine Corps Family Child Care (FCC) is available in the R-G housing area and is provided by military family members in their Marine Corps housing unit. All Family Child Care providers are certified by the Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Support Activity. Providers undergo background screening, home inspections and on going training on child development, infant/child CPR and First Aid Certification. Family Child Care staff provide oversight and technical assistance, ensuring the provider's home meets Marine Corps standards. Each home receives a regular unannounced inspection by the Family Child Care staff. Military housing policy requires that no child under the age of 12 be left alone without mature supervision.

CHILD CARE CENTERS:

INFANT/TODDLER: You can expect limited availability and long waiting lists at most child care centers for children under 24 months.

PRESCHOOLER: There are a variety of commercial and non-profit centers in the Kansas City area. If you are in the Richards-Gebaur area (Belton school district) and your child turns 4 by August 1st, you may enroll that child in a FREE preschool through the school district. Sign ups for this program begin in March/April preceding the school year, and fills it quickly.

SCHOOL AGE: Most public schools in the Kansas City area offer child care on site. Most of counties' Parks and Recreation programs offer full day summer camps for school age children. These programs usually cost less than traditional child care, have flexible hours and a lot of activities. Sign ups are often full by May. There is often no deposit or cancellation fee. If you are interested, call by April to sign up.
