Branch description. Commands, directs, and controls military police and criminal investigation units in both the tactical and peacetime environment. Supports the tactical commander as the primary combat force to detect level two threats in the conduct of the rear battle. Provides battlefield nuclear weapon security, tactical security, circulation control, and the detaining and or evacuation of enemy prisoners of war and civilian internees. Supports the com­mander in anti/countering terrorism; the enforcement of military laws and regulations; keeping of order; prevention and investigation of crime, apprehension and disposition of military offenders; traffic and movement control; physical security of critical equipment, facil­ities, lines of communication, and the safety of Government offi­cials. Directs or supervises administration of custody, control, care and rehabilitation of military prisoners. Plans, coordinates and di­rects criminal investigations, crime surveys, protective service missions, polygraph support and criminal investigation activities. Prepares plans, policies and regulations pertaining to organization, training, operations, and equipment of military police units and personnel for both tactical and law enforcement operations. Directs training, administration, supply, maintenance, transportation, and security activities of a military police unit.

Military Police (31A).

Description of duties. Commands or assists commander of a military police, physical security, correctional, or criminal investiga­tion unit or activity. In command and staff role, plans, coordinates, and directs military police or physical security activities within a command or activity; directs or supervises the administration and operation of confinement and correctional facilities and hospital prisoner wards within a command; or supervises and administers the development and operation of an ongoing criminal investigation program.

Special qualifications. Officers assigned to positions in the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command must be accepted by the Commander, USACIDC, per AR 195-3, and fulfill one of the following:

(a) Have been previously accredited as a commissioned officer, warrant officer, or noncommissioned officer Special Agent or Crim­inal Investigator.

(b) Have satisfactorily performed in a USACIDC duty position for at least 15 months.

(c) Have completed all training requirements as specified by the Commander, USACIDC.

Special grading of positions. None.

(b) Security Officer (CPT-COL) (Installation, Activity).

(c) Correctional Officer (CPT-MAJ) (Regional Correctional Facility).

(d) Commandant, U.S. Disciplinary Barracks (COL).

(e) Director of Classification (LTC) (USDB).

(f) Director of Custody (LTC) (USDB).

(g) Commander, CID District/CSE/TSE (LTC).

(h) CID Group Commander (COL).

(i) CID Staff Officer (CPT-COL) (CID District/CSE/TSE, Group or USACIDC Headquarters).
