Branch description. Encompasses operational flying and non-operational aviation positions (less those identified with AMEDD AOC 67J) concerned with the employment and support of Army aviation units and elements. Directs and coordinates the employment of Army aviation units in support of land combat operations. Provides the Army expertise at all levels of command to develop doctrine and plans essential to the successful employment of Army aviation systems. Directs training, safety, administration, communications, supply maintenance, transportation, and security activities of aviation units.

Branch qualifications. DA Pam 600-3 lists qualifications for entry and professional development in this branch.

Aviation, General (15A).

Description of duties. Identifies positions requiring general aviation knowledge and experience but not related to a specific aviation AOC.

Special qualifications. Must have completed an officer basic course and initial entry rotary wing training. Appropriate aviation training requirements will be identified by a SI.

Special grading of positions. Only aviation LT positions will be coded 15A.

Unique duty positions. None.

Aviation Combined Arms Operations (15B).

Description of duties. Commands or serves in leadership positions in aviation units. Plans, coordinates, and directs employment of aviation assets as an integral member of the combined arms team. Serves in staff positions, at various levels, which require knowledge of, and training in, the doctrinal and organizational facets of aviation and the other combat arms.

Special qualifications. Must have completed a combat arms officer advanced course. Appropriate aviation training requirements will be identified by a SI.

Special grading of positions. For positions graded CPT and above.

(a) Company Commander positions in medium helicopter compa­nies (CH-47) will be graded MAJ.

(b) Company and Detachment Commander positions in Special Operations Aviation (SOA) other than HHC will be graded MAJ.

(c) Platoon Leader positions in the SOA Assault Helicopter Bat­talion, Medium Helicopter Battalion, Aviation Battalion and Avia­tion Detachment, will be graded CPT.

(d) Executive officer positions in the SOA regiment will be graded LTC.

(e) Executive officer and S3 positions in the SOA assault helicopter battalion will be graded LTC.

Unique duty positions. None.

Aviation All-Source Intelligence (15C).

Description of duties. Commands or serves in leadership posi­tions in special electronic/tactical intelligence aviation units. Plans, coordinates, and directs employment of special electronic/tactical intelligence aviation assets. Serves in staff positions, at various levels requiring special electronics/tactical intelligence aviation knowledge and experience.

Special qualifications. Must have completed the Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course with MI FA training in AOC 35D (All Course Intelligence) or 35G (Signals Intelligence/Electronic Warfare). Appropriate aviation training requirements will be identified by a SI. Individual must obtain a TOP SECRET clearance with Special Intelligence access.

Special grading of positions. For positions graded CPT and above. Company Commander positions in aviation companies (EW) CEWIAEB and aviation companies (AS) CEWIAEB will be graded MAJ.

Unique duty positions.

(a) S2 of Aviation Battalion/Brigade.

(b) Platoon leader/company commander MI Aerial Exploitation Battalion (AEB).

(c) Commander/staff of MI ground unit in FA 35.

Aviation Logistics (15D).

Description of duties. Commands or serves in leadership positions in aviation maintenance/logistics units. Plans, coordinates, and directs employment of aviation maintenance/logistics assets. Serves in staff positions, at various levels, requiring aviation maintenance/ logistics knowledge and experience.

Special qualifications. Must have completed the Aviation Of­ficer Advanced Course or the Combined Logistics Officers Ad­vanced Course and the Maintenance Management/Maintenance Test Pilot Course. Officers who previously completed other advanced courses and were awarded AOC 15D will remain qualified. Devia­tions and exceptions must be approved by the Assistant Comman­dant, U.S. Army Aviation Logistics School, Fort Eustis, Virginia.

Special grading of positions. For positions graded CPT and above.

(a) Company Commander positions in aviation intermediate maintenance companies (AVIM) will be graded MAJ.

(b) Company Commander positions in SOA maintenance compa­nies (AVUM/AVIM) will be graded MAJ.

Unique duty positions.

(a) Avionics maintenance officer.

(b) C-E Materiel Officer in MMC or support command.
