Community Overview:
Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer's (AMDOs) are maintenance and logistics professionals with formal technical and managerial education. AMDOs use their extensive Fleet experience to provide leadership at all levels of the integrated logistics and operational support of Naval Aviation. No other designator mirrors AMDO education, Fleet experience, and knowledge of the integrated logistics system.
Specific responsibilities:
- Provide full-time professional management of organizational (squadron), intermediate (repair facility) and depot level (industrial facility) maintenance organizations.
- Influence emerging aviation weapon system designs to reduce, simplify, or eliminate the requirement for maintenance actions.
- Reconcile long-range readiness objectives with projected resource levels, and establish Naval Aviation Maintenance Policy to ensure that objectives are met.
Officer Candidate School (OCS): OCS is part of Naval Aviation Schools Command located at Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL, along the Gulf Coast in the Florida Panhandle. The 13 week OCS course has been designed by Navy officers and educators to give an individual a basic working knowledge of the high-tech Naval establishment afloat and ashore, to prepare that individual to assume the responsibilities of a Naval officer and begin developing them to their full potential. OCS is extremely demanding, both physically and mentally. An individual should be committed to the goal of earning a commission in the Navy before arriving at OCS. Only those with a strong desire to become Naval officers will successfully complete OCS. Upon successful completion of preliminary training at OCS, future AMDOs are commissioned as Ensigns.
