The Navy offers a variety of enlistment incentives to entice qualified applicants to join. The Navy has monetary enlistment bonuses up to $40,000, for those who agree to enlist in a Navy job that the Navy considers to be undermanned. They also offer bonuses for such things as college credit, and proficiency in critical foreign languages. Like the Army, the Navy has a "college fund" which adds money to the GI Bill, and it also offers a College Loan Repayment Program (CLRP), of up to $65,000.
Like the other services, the Navy offers advanced enlistment rank up to E-3, for such things as college credits or JROTC. Additionally, the Navy has accelerated promotion for those who enlist under certain programs, such as the Nuclear Field. The Navy offers four, five, and six year active duty enlistment contracts. They also offer National Call to Service enlistment contracts (2 year enlistments), but this is not a good option if you possibly wish to spend more time on active duty. The Navy considers the NCS program to be a method to increase their Reserve enlistments, and very, very, very few sailors are given the option to remain on active duty at the end of the NCS active duty period.
