There are no DoD schools at NAS Fallon. Depending on where you live in the community, including housing, determines which school your child will attend.
High school age children residing onboard the Naval Air Station are bused into Fallon (approximately 5 miles west) and attend Churchill County High School. Churchill County High School is considered by many to be the top school in the great basin. It is a comprehensive high school in which the curriculum offers an extensive variety of advanced placement, honors, and college prep courses as well as a broad choice of vocational educational courses. Fast Track (attending college for high school credit) is available to eligible students. There are five public elementary schools located throughout Churchill County that offer a wide range of programs, including a resource specialist and sports programs for students.
The private schools available in Churchill County are: five private preschool and elementary schools, and one religious education school. Two schools of higher education are available in Churchill County; Western Nevada College and the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Area Office in Churchill County. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is available on base at NAS Fallon. There are no DoD schools at NAS Fallon.
Nevada Law requires all students entering public school to be immunized. A child may enter school conditionally if the parent or guardian submits a certificate from a physician or local health officer that the child is receiving the required immunizations. If a certificate from the physician or local health officer showing that the child has been fully immunized is not submitted to the appropriate school officers within 90 school days after the child was conditionally admitted, the child must be excluded from school and may not be readmitted until the requirements for immunizations have been met.
Another option is for parents to teach their children at home instead of sending them to a public or private school. To home school your child, you need to register with the Churchill County School District office of administration. You'll be given standard curriculum to follow as a guideline and an assigned teacher who will monitor your child's progress. If you home school independently, you must file a private school affidavit with the State of Nevada and create your own curriculum, or purchase it from a private company.
