Are all uniforms issued in boot camp? What happens after that?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Are all uniforms issued in boot camp? What happens after that?
Answer: Required uniform items for enlisted are issued during boot camp. Usually, one receives a partial issue at the beginning of boot camp, and the remainder before graduation. If required items are not available, recruits may be given a monetary allowance for the items and instructed to purchase the item(s) at the military clothing sales store (each military base has one).

After boot camp, members must purchase replacement items through the clothing sales stores. To help compensate, members are given an annual uniform allowance (Click here for current rates).

Officers are responsible for purchasing their uniforms. While officers do not get an annual uniform allowance, they are entitled to an INITIAL uniform allowance of $400 to help defray the cost.
