Looking for a part-time job? If you're a member of the drilling Army or Air National Guard, you can apply to be an Army National Guard Recruiting Assistant and earn $2,000 for each recruit you refer for enlistment in the Army National Guard.
The Army National Guard has launched this new program to assist in making its 2006 accession goal of 70,000 troops. The program itself, however, is not operated by the National Guard, but rather by a contractor, Docupak, Inc. Those who are accepted by the contractor as Recruiting Assistants become independent contractors. Participation in the program is currently limited to M-Day Army National Guard Members and M-Day Air National Guard members (an M-Day member is one who performs weekend drill, but is not on full-time duty).
Here's how the program works:
Those interested in becoming NGRAs apply online at the National Guard Recruiting Assistance Program website. The contractor verifies the applicant's information and hires him/her. They are hired by the contractor, not the National Guard.
NGRAs identify and pre-qualify potential soldiers in their areas and sphere of influence. After pre-qualifying the recruit, the NGRA arranges a meeting with the local Army National Guard Recruiter. Once the applicant enlists, the NGRA receives $1,000. When the recruit completes basic training and AIT (job training), the NGRA receives another $1,000.
Other duties may include:
- Maintain contact with the new recruit and provide encouragement to reinforce the recruit's decision to join the Guard
- Involve the new recruit in PT to properly prepare them for BCT
- Ask the new recruit if they have friends, family or acquaintances who might be interested in joining the Guard
- Provide support and information to the new recruit and/or their family about the benefits and opportunities in the Guard
- Contact the new recruit's Recruit Sustainment Program coordinator and confirm that he or she is fully engaged and being properly cared for in the RSP
- Take the new recruit to the first RSP drill if it does not conflict with any other required drill performance as RA duties cannot be done while in drill status
- Prepare the new recruit for success at BCT
- Mentor them on life as a Soldier in the Guard
- Maintain contact with the new recruit while they are at BCT and AIT in order to provide encouragement, advice and support
The program is not open to all National Guard members. AGR, ADSW, MIL TECH and immediate family members of FTRRF are not currently authorized to participate. Additionally, drilling members may not perform any NGRA duties during drill weekends. All duties must be performed during the member's personal "citizen" time, not on "military" time.
