2010 Military Pay and Benefit Changes

Stop-Loss Pay

By , About.com Guide

Updated November 02, 2009

The 2010 Defense Authorization Act is now law. The act includes many changes in how the military is funded and operates in 2010.

Last year, Congress passed a provision which mandated that the military pay $500 per month for military members placed under STOP-LOSS orders. (Note: STOP-LOSS is when a person is extended involuntarily on active duty in order to deploy). However, under the provision passed last year, the authority to pay the Stop-Loss Allowance ends on September 30, 2009. Secton 620 of the act extends this until July 1, 2011.
