94D - Air Traffic Control Equipment Repairer

Basic Job Description

Electronic instrument repairers fix and maintain electronics, such as measuring equipment, navigational controls and photographic equipment. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) Equipment Repairer performs or supervises field and sustainment level maintenance and installation of air traffic control communications, navigation aids (NAVAIDS), and landing systems.

Duties performed by Soldiers in this MOS include:

Performs installation and adjustments of air traffic control communications/navigation aids systems. Uses troubleshooting techniques to include sectionalization, localization, and isolation to diagnose causes for malfunction or nonfunction to independent equipment and air traffic control systems. Tests, aligns, and adjusted equipment. Replaces and repairs faulty components and individual parts using repair techniques and trouble analyses charts. Maintains air traffic control communications systems. Checks and makes adjustments on avionic equipment associated with air traffic control systems. Maintains equipment maintenance records, authorized spare parts, supply stock, tool lists, and technical literature. Maintains technical manuals, and instructional material for repair of air traffic control communication/navigation systems and equipment.

Provides technical guidance to subordinate personnel. Installs and troubleshoots air traffic control equipment, landing systems and identification friend or for/selective identification feature systems. Performs comparison checks on repaired equipment in accordance with test standards. Performs modification work orders, repairs and replaces faulty components.

Training Information

37 weeks, 3 days, at Fort Gordon, GA

ASVAB Score Required: 105 in aptitude area EL

Security Clearance: None

Other Requirements

  • Normal color vision required
  • History of alcohol or drug abuse is generally disqualifying (Note: Experimental use of marijuna, as a civilian, under the age of 18, documented on enlistment documents is not generally disqualifying)
  • A positive result of urine test found during MEPS processing generally makes one ineligible for this MOS
  • Documented instance of the use, sale, transfer, possession, or manufacture of any narcotic or other controlled substance or dangerous drug is disqualifying
