91J - Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer

Basic Job Description

The quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer are primarily responsible for supervising or performing maintenance on chemical equipment, quartermaster machinery, forced air-heaters and special purpose equipment.

Duties performed by Soldiers in this MOS include:

  • Maintain and repair electrical/fuel heater systems, pumps, decontamination systems, protective filter systems, reverse osmosis water purification systems, laundry washer/extractor systems and dryer/tumbler systems
  • Service internal combustion engine ignition/fuel/cooling/electrical systems
  • Perform damage assessment and repair

Training Information

Job training for a quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 12 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instructions. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field, including practice in marine engine maintenance and repair.

Some of the skills you’ll learn are:

  • Internal combustion engine theory
  • Use and care of hand and power tools

ASVAB Score Required: 92 in aptitude area MM OR
87 in aptitude area MM and 85 in aptitude area GT

Security Clearance: None

Strength Requirement: very heavy

Physical Profile Requirement: 222222
