MOS 5821 - - Criminal Investigator CID Agent

Job Description: Criminal investigation division agents perform criminal investigative duties while operationally assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division and Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). CID agents conduct all general criminal investigations falling within the jurisdictional purview of CID and NCIS, provide technical guidance and supervision to junior CID agents and apprentice investigators, conduct covert operations, personal protective services, hostage negotiations polygraph examinations, laboratory examinations, and liaison with other senior military, civil and Federal law enforcement agencies. CID agents support both installation and Marine Air Ground Task Force commanders.

Job Requirements:

(1) All requests for waivers must be approved by CMC (PS).

(2) Must have a GT score of 110 or higher (not waiverable) .

(3) Must be 21 years of age.

(4) Must be a U.S. citizen.

(5) Must have normal color vision (not waiverable) .

(6) Must have a minimum height of 65 inches with weight in proportion (waiverable to 62 inches).

(7) Must have a valid state driver's license (not waiverable).

(8) Must have vision correctable to 20/20.

(9) Must possess clarity of speech.

(10) Must have no history of mental, nervous, or emotional disorders (not waiverable) .

(11) No convictions by special or general courts-martial or civil courts (except minor traffic violations); nonjudicial punishment convictions involving illegal drugs, spouse abuse/domestic violence, or immoral character (not waiverable) .

(12) All CID agents must initiate and satisfactorily complete a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and granted a top-secret security clearance with a satisfactory periodic review every 5 years. Personnel may work in the billet while awaiting clearance adjudication, providing interim clearance eligibility has been accomplished.

(13) The apprentice investigator is required to perform a minimum of 6 months on the job training in criminal investigative duties and be recommended by the CID officer and the provost marshal for assignment: to the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division Apprentice Special Agent (USACIDASA) Course, U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS).

(14) Successfully complete the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division Apprentice Special Agent Course (ABAC), U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS), Ft Leonard Wood, MO.

(15) Accreditation will be granted by CMC (PS) per MCO P5580.2, Marine Corps Law Enforcement Manual.

(16) Criminal investigators assigned to NCIS as special agents must be screened and determined eligible for duty by an NCIS Screening Board (as described in the most current version of the MOU between Director, NCIS and CMC). This requirement may be waived for those personnel who have previously served with NCIS as a special agent.
