Job Description: Data chiefs perform advanced systems installation, operation, integration, and troubleshooting in order to maintain optimum data communication systems operations. They plan and supervise the installation, configuration, and maintenance of all data communications systems and network services, including the Defense Message System (DMS), in both a garrison and deployed environment. Data chiefs plan and design Local Area and Wide Area Networks and link heterogeneous networks through the application of appropriate data and telecommunications hardware and software. They also develop and execute plans for tactical data communications systems and database integration in order to ensure these systems are properly integrated at all levels,

Job Requirements:

(1) This MOS is awarded upon promotion to Staff Sergeant only to Marines holding MOS 0651, or 0656.

(2) Must be a U.S. Citizen.

(3) Must have a secret security clearance.

(4) Upon promotion to Staff Sergeant, Marines holding MOS 0659 are expected to attend the Data Chiefs course conducted at MCCES 29 Palms, CA.

(5) Active Duty Marines must have two years of active duty upon completion of training.
