Background

The Women's Army Corps Service Medal was established by Executive Order 9365, and implemented by War Department Bulletin 17, 1943. Proposed designs were presented to the Secretary of War for approval on 12 Dec 44 and approved by the Secretary on 16 Dec 44. The Medal was designed by Thomas Hudson Jones. The ribbon colors bear the branch colors of the Women's Army Corps.
