The Spanish War Service Medal is a bronze medallion 1 3/8 inches in diameter. In it’s center is a Roman sword shown hanging on a tablet in which the words “FOR SERVICE IN THE SPANISH WAR" are inscribed. The sword is sheathed to signify National Guard Service in the Continental United States, not in combat. Surrounding the tabled is a laurel wreath. A Coat of Arms of the United States with a scroll below is shown on the reverse side of the medal. Surrounding the scroll is a wreath bearing the insignias of the Infantry on its left, Artillery below and Cavalry on its right.
