The Spanish Campaign Medal is an oxidized Bronze medallion, 1 1/4 inches in diameter with a matt finish. Surrounded on the outside edge by the a circle composed of the words 'UNITED STATES ARMY" in the upper half and thirteen stars in the lower half, is a castle depicted two small round towers at each corner. Rounding the top outside edge of the medallion are the words' "WAR WITH SPAIN", and centered on the bottom half is the date "1898" with a branch of tobacco to the left and a stalk of sugar cane to the right. An eagle with wings displayed perched upon a trophy is shown on the reverse side of the medal. The trophy consists of cannon, six rifles and four standards, an Indian shield, quiver of arrows and three spears, a Cuban machete and Sulu kris. Displayed below the trophy is the inscription "FOR SERVICE".
