The figure stands on broken ground, with clouds in the background and mountains in the far distance. The reverse shows a polar projection map of the Antarctic Continent, across with the words "Courage Sacrifice Devotion" set in three centered lines, all within a symbolic circular border of penguins and marine life.
The Suspension Ribbon Clasp for the Antarctica Service Medal is attached to a metal clasp, 1 1/4 inches in width and 1/4 inch in height, with the words "WINTERED OVER" written on it in raised letters within a 1/32 inch border. The color of the clasp is bronze for the first winter, gold for the second winter and silver for the third winter.
The Service Ribbon Attachment for the Antarctica Service Medal is a metal disk, 5/16 inch in diameter, with an engraving of the Antarctica continent. The metal is bronze for the first winter, gold for the second winter and silver for the third winter.
