Originally established in 1943, Yuma Proving Ground is one of the largest military installations in the world, bigger than the state of Rhode Island. The proving ground plays a tremendous role in helping to maintain the quality of America’s combat forces.
Yuma Proving Ground is built on 1,300 square miles of desert. Because of it's size, the Army is able to use Yuma Proving Ground to exercise weapon systems without puting the public in danger. The clear climate and sparse vegetation prevents many environmental concerns. For this reason, Yuma Proving Ground is the Army's desert environmental test center. The proving ground's sea level altitiude makes it perfect for the helicoper test center.
Yuma Proving Ground's Mission is to provide professional garrison services to the Military community (Soldiers, employees, family members and retirees) in a manner that they expect and deserve.
