US Army Garrison Garmisch has 85 on-post Army Family Housing quarters. With the exception of the two General Flag Officer Quarters (GFOQ) the units are all located in the Breitenau Housing Area. At this time there is a renovation program in the Family Housing units, providing all with new kitchens, bathrooms, washer and dryer in the units upon completion. This beautiful housing area is located almost at the foot of Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, and surrounded by woods with numerous walking trails accessible from the housing area.

Except for Senior Grade Officers Quarters all the housing units are in stairwell buildings. Each unit has private washer/dryer in the individual apartment. If you own a washer / dryer, these appliances should be stored at your present location, as well as refrigerators and ranges. Garmisch has six 2-stairwell buildings and one 3-stairwell building, where two to six families share a common stairwell entrance. Apartments have limited space for large furniture. Most units have a living room / dining room combination. Kitchens generally do not have room for a kitchen table, in some cases however, there is a built in eating counter. It is recommended not to bring large bulky furniture to Garmisch into these stairwell units. Waterbeds require prior approval. The standard voltage in Europe is 220v, our Government housing units have 110v and 220v outlets.

Bonafide Bachelors (those drawing without dependent rate BAQ) in grades E-7 and above are authorized to live off post. For those desiring to live on post, BOQ’s/SEBQ’s are located in the Breitenau housing area. There is very limited, shared storage space in the BOQ’s/SEBQ’s.
