Situated in the heart of the Tennessee Valley, in northern Alabama, Redstone Arsenal is home to the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), the Space and Missile Defense Command, numerous Program Executive Offices (PEO), and major components of the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Missile Defense Agency. Several tenant and satellite organizations are also home at Redstone Arsenal.
In 1941, Redstone Arsenal was built to produce conventional chemical ammunition to be used in WWII. Today, Redstone is the heart of the Army's rocket and missile programs. It was at Redstone Arsenal that Dr. Werner von Braun and other German rocket experts developed the first ballistic missile leading to the establishment of NASA's Marshall Space flight Center in 1960.
