Other U.S. Army Force Modernizations
These actions include other conversions, inactivations and return of units to the United States to restructure U.S. Army, Europe to meet future mission requirements.
These force structure changes affect about 2,800 military positions, 4,200 family members, and 10 U.S. and five local civilian employees.
— The 1st Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment in Babenhausen, Germany, inactivates.
— The 6th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment incorporates the 549th Maintenance Company and converts to form a single unit, which will then return to the United States. Both units are in Ansbach.
— The 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, incorporates the 19th Maintenance Company and converts to form a single unit. Both units are in Hanau.
— As a result of the conversion of 5th and 6th battalions above, two batteries located in Babenhausen return to the United States.
— The 94th Engineer Battalion in Vilseck, Germany, returns to the United States.
— The 578th Signal Company in Darmstadt inactivates.
— The 377th Heavy Equipment Transport Company, with forces in Mannheim and Grafenwöhr, returns to the United States.
— The 71st Missile Maintenance Company in Hanau inactivates.
— The 21st Medical Detachment in Hohenfels, Germany, inactivates.
— The 79th Medical Detachment in Chievres, Belgium, inactivates.
— The 560th Military Police Company in Mannheim inactivates.
— The headquarters and headquarters detachment of the 510th Personnel Services Battalion in Mannheim inactivates.
— The 39th Finance Battalion’s Detachments A, in Hanau, and Detachment B, in Darmstadt, inactivate.
— The 165th Military Intelligence Battalion in Darmstadt inactivates and contributes some equipment and personnel to build the 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) Military Intelligence Company.
— The 523rd Dental Company in Giebelstadt inactivates.
In addition, the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, attaches to 1st AD this year as the 1st ID returns to the United States. This transfer does not affect personnel numbers.
