Air Force Enlisted Job Descriptions

3P0X1 - SECURITY FORCES (Page 3)

By , About.com Guide

So, what's it like to be an Air Force "cop?" HACKSAW, a member of our Message Forum, puts it this way:

Let me put it to you like this troop.... If I didn't love it, I wouldn't have been doing it for almost 20 years! I've been in Security Forces since 1985 (It was called Security Police back then) and I have never regretted it.

OK... Here is the down and dirty stuff your recruiter will never tell you about....

Security Forces isn't for everyone. The hours suck. Forget about getting holidays and weekends off...That is unless they fall on your scheduled day off. Everybody who isn't a cop thinks they know your job better than you do. AND We are near the top when it comes to suicide and Divorce statistics.

You are going to be working in all types of weather. Hot, Cold, Rain, Snow , Sleet, Hail, Tornado, and hurricane. When I was stationed in Mississippi, the cops were told if a Hurricane hits, we are the last ones to go into the shelters! I wish I had a dollar for everytime I had to stand out in the rain or snow checking ID's just to have some clown tell me to "KEEP WARM" or "STAY DRY". Ya Know what there skippy...I would be warm and dry if I didn't have to walk out of that gate shack and check your ID! Thanks anyway!

If you can handle that and not go bonkers, you'll make a good SF Troop!

Now for the good stuff!

A Cop Unit is a family! Yeah, we may fight amongst ourselves, but woe be it onto the poor schmuck who messes with one of us! You look out for your brother and sister SF Troops and you rest assured that they are looking out for you!

Cops tend to work hard and play harder.

Speaking of family... I have never been to a base where I didn't know someone I had been stationed with somewhere before. This reunion always requires "Remember When" war stories over a few adult beverages!

Trust an old cop like me troop.... If you can get through the BS I talked about earlier...You will love this job!
