Incirlik AB, Turkey is a geographically remote location with fewer medical services than many military families are accustomed to. To ensure appropriate services are available for family members, a careful screening process is performed.

Incirlik Air Base has an ambulatory care clinic. There are limited speciality services, and although they maintain a close working relationship with several Turkish hospitals in Adana, use of those facilities present some challenges, especially if you have family members with special medical needs.

The primary care clinic consists of family practice, flight medicine, pediatrics and women's healthcare. They provide same-day appointments in family practice, pediatrics and flight medicine. While the ICC staff can provide treatment for most emergencies, it is important to understand that the 39th Medical Squadron does not operate an emergency room, and we rely on our Turkish partners in the city of Adana for assistance with critical cases. We do not provide overnight hospitalization. A patient liaison, fluent in both Turkish and English, accompanies you to your host nation healthcare provider appointments. When specialty care is not available in Turkey, patients are aeromedically evacuated to mainland Europe or CONUS referral facilities generally located in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area.

Obstetrical delivery services are currently under transition at Incirlik. The Base has partnered with the local Turkish hospitals to provide delivery services. Following a recent staff assistance visit by our USAFE consultant for obstetrics, we are currently not recommending local delivery services. The local Turkish hospitals are working to correct deficiencies we identified in equipment, training and facilities. In the meantime, we are recommending storknesting at Bitburg/Spangdahlem in Germnay. Expectant mothers depart Turkey prior to their 36th week of pregnancy and "storknest" in Germany until delivery. The mother and child are able to return to Turkey once the child's birth certificate, passport, and AF Form 1466, Request for Family Member's Medical and Educational Clearance for Travel are obtained. Women who are pregnant or planning to have a baby during assignment to Incirlik are encouraged to contact the Women's Healthcare Clinic at DSN 314-676-6787 as soon as possible for further information. If a woman will be greater than 30 weeks pregnant at the time of PCS, our recommendation is to delay travel until after delivery.

You are expected to arrive with current medical readiness requirements (PHA, immunizations, profiles, dental and fitness). There are unique immunization requirements at Incirlik AB; please speak with your Health Force Management or Immunizations services in your medical treatment facility if you are unsure of the requirements.
