U.S. Military Poll

The About.comRetired Pay & Divorce

The Uniformed Services Former Spouse Protection Act allows state courts to treat military retired pay as property, and divide it between the military member and the ex-spouse during divorce proceedings.

Unsurprisingly, several veteran and retiree groups oppose this law as unfair.

On the other hand, several ex-spouse and women's groups say the law is entirely fair, and merely echos laws for non-military-related divorces.

What do you think? Do military spouses "earn" a portion of military retired pay?
