U.S. Military Poll

The About.comProfanity in Basic Training

Before 1980, Basic Training Drill Instructors (AKA Drill Sergeants, AKA Military Training Instructors, AKA Recruit Division Commanders) would use profanity as a method of increasing the stress-levels of recruits.

Today, there is a strict prohibition against DI/DS/MTI/RDC's using profanity in front of recruits. However, many recruits have told me that their instructors still use profanity routinely.

Is the current policy prohibiting profanity wise, or does Today's Basic Training lose something in the translation?
