U.S. Military Poll

The About.comEnlisted Before Commission

At present, the United States Military gets its commissioned officers from several sources. There's Officer Candidate School/Officer Training School, the Service Academies, and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). There are also several programs which allow selected enlisted personnel to advance their education and receive a commission.

Some military personnel believe that the best officers are those who spent time as an enlisted member first. Others believe this is hogwash.

What's your opinion? Should the military services require enlisted experience before becoming a commissioned officer?
