Dependent Sentenced to 30 Months in Korean Jail: SEOUL — A South Korean judge sentenced a 19-year-old U.S. military dependent Friday to 30 months in prison for robbery, larceny and assault. Adrian D. Courtney, the son of a servicemember at Yongsan Garrison, could be released in 24 months for good behavior, the three-judge panel ruled. Courtney, who has denied the charges, has a week to file an appeal. Courtney stole about $11 from a taxi driver in Itaewon and slapped a Korean woman Sept. 24, according to a prosecution report. On Nov. 4, he snatched a 17-year-old girl’s handbag outside the Hannam Village housing area, knocking her to the ground when she resisted. The girl’s knee was hurt. Her purse contained about $66.

Security Tightened at US Bases in Germany: Security measures have increased at U.S. military installations throughout Germany, according to various sources, including an e-mail message sent to U.S. civilian personnel directors. As a result of the change, people entering installations can expect random automobile inspections, tighter identification card checks, traffic barriers and longer lines getting on or off base. "Due to a recent increase in threat activity across Europe, we have raised the Threatcon level to Bravo," according to the message, which stated the information had been generated by the Army’s V Corps.

3 SSgts Complain of Sexual Harassement: KADENA AIR BASE — Three female staff sergeants here have lost faith in the Air Force’s "zero tolerance" policy against sexual harassment. Staff sergeants Adrienne Payne, Shaninero Hervey and Jennifer James are not satisfied with the action taken against two male supervisors who allegedly tried to use their positions of power to gain sexual favors. And they say they feel the system favors protecting the perpetrators’ rights rather than the victims’. As a result, two of the women are preparing to leave the Air Force. The women say they suffered humiliation and one said she contemplated suicide.

Soldiers Reach Out to Help Family of Slain Kosovo Girl: DEBELDE, Kosovo — When a convoy of Humvees came to a stop near an Albanian family’s small farm in this village, adults and children ran up in a frenzy of anticipation. Children’s faces beamed with smiles; older members of the family had tears in their eyes. This wouldn’t be unusual if it were a regular humanitarian visit to a group of needy Kosovars. But this family lost a member because of the gruesome actions of a U.S. soldier. They said what??? (Selected excerpts from the Forum)

SHOWERING IN BASIC TRAINING: "mine [high school] closed the showers down, A kid was killed in the shower by some other kids . He was beaten and thrown into the water knobs on the wall one of the knobs was metal and bent upwards creating a sharp point. it slashed his testicles open and he laid there and bled to death. NEW ARMY SLOGAN: "Just in case you haven't noticed by how I listed my military genealogy, I think this new slogan STINKS! I noted our duties to emphasize one thing--the Army has two purposes--to kill people and break things in protection of the national interest! It isn't nation-building and it isn't peacekeeping, and it isn't to give soup to children. It isn't a social experimentation, it isn't a job as the "new" Army would have you believe, and it certainly isn't to "find yourself" as this new smear campaign (against brass-balled team-oriented men) would have you believe. MILITARY HUMOR: It seems that a young man volunteered for Navy service during World War II. He had such a high aptitude for aviation that he was sent right to Pensacola skipping boot camp.

The very first day at Pensacola he solos and is the best flier on the base. All they could do was give him
his gold wings and assign him immediately to an aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

On his first day aboard he took off and single-handedly shot down 6 Japanese Zeroes. Then climbing up to 20,000 ft. he found 9 more Japanese planes and shot them all down, too. Noting that his fuel was getting low, he descended, circled the carrier and came in for a perfect landing on the deck.

He threw back the canopy, climbed out and jogged over to the captain. Saluting smartly he said, "Well sir, how did I do on my very first day?"

The captain turned around, bowed, and replied, "You make one velly impoltant mistake!"
