US Troops Watch as Kosovars Vote: For U.S. troops, election day in Kosovo was just another day on guard, soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division said Saturday while protecting the entrance to a polling station. But for Kosovars taking part in their first national election, the day was a chance for democracy. In towns across the province, voters chose representatives to fill the Provisional Assembly of Kosovo, a 120-seat organization that will take over from the United Nations a limited role governing the province. Working alongside U.N. police, U.S. troops were responsible for the safety and security at polling sites in the U.S. sector.
