More Criticizing Bush Terrorism Policies: A growing chorus on the left and the right is accusing the Bush administration of ignoring civil liberties while leaving the courts and Congress out in the cold as it aggressively pursues the war on terrorism here and abroad. Critics ranging from the solidly liberal People for the American Way Foundation to conservative Rep. Robert L. Barr Jr. (R-Ga.) are characterizing recently announced administration plans as ethnic profiling, power grabbing and overzealous law enforcement. "Military tribunals, secret evidence, no numbers on how many people the government is detaining," said Jim Zogby, president of the Arab-American Institute. "We're looking like a Third World country." |
