Aircraft Spare Parts System Broken: The Pentagon system for dispensing spare parts for airplanes, tanks and other equipment is broken and officials aren't sure how to fix it. At least 154,000 times a year, a military mechanic takes a part from one airplane and puts it on another because a new spare part is not on hand, says a preliminary report by the General Accounting Office.
