Who's War is This, Anyway?: In the worldwide media, the question isn't "When will the war on terrorism be won?" but "Whose war is it?" In Germany and Japan debate focuses on the momentous decision in both countries to remilitarize. Along with opinion makers in Britain, commentators in those allied countries are reassuring the United States that they remain committed to the war. But in the Arab world, denunciations of the U.S. bombing campaign are growing both more common and more vehement. In Pakistan in particular, opinion seems to be growing more polarized over pro-U.S. President Pervez Musharraf. For a half-century after losing World War II, Germany and Japan were effectively disarmed. That's history as of this week. In both countries, the U.S. war in Afghanistan is driving profound change in how they deal with the world.
