A Soldier's Life on a Computer Chip: When David F. Moore returned from a nine-month 1999 stint for the U.S. Army in Turkey, Bosnia and Germany, military administrators, to his dismay, handed him a three-inch-thick personal-history file he would need to maintain. It contained records of his life insurance, physical examinations, dental and medical checkups, Army training, and other items. One day, however, the bulky file will be replaced by a plastic identification card with a memory chip inside and magnetic strips on the back. |
