Pilots Adapt to Shifting Missions: ABOARD THE USS CARL VINSON IN THE NORTHERN ARABIAN SEA, Oct. 24 -- The cartoon on the mission schedule distributed to fighter pilots aboard this aircraft carrier spoke to the numbing regularity of the attacks on Afghanistan launched from here almost every day. It depicted a calendar, with a space for each day of October filled with the same two words: "Bomb something." But the targets have changed significantly in the 17 days since the attacks began Oct. 7, reflecting an increasing U.S. emphasis on supporting Northern Alliance forces battling the ruling Taliban militia.
