Description of NEC: Assembles, maintains, troubleshoots, aligns, and calibrates medical equipment. Calculates circuit parameters, solder, plumbing, welding, and documentation. The major emphasis is on deployable medical equipment, i.e., X-Ray, dental X-Ray, laboratory, ophthalmic, dental, pneumatic, hydraulic, general, medical and surgical diagnostic and treatment equipment at the module or circuit board level.

Paygrades Authorized to Hold NEC: E3-E6

Training Course: Course Mandatory

Open to Women: Yes

SPECIAL NOTES: 1. Graduates of a biomedical equipment training program approved by the Biomedical Equipment Technician Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation may be awarded this NEC by EPMAC (Code 49) upon recommendation of BUMED.

2. Members will retain this NEC for a maximum of 8 years. If the member has not qualified for Advanced Biomedical Equipment Technician (HM-8478) by the end of the 8th year after graduation, his/her next PCS assignment will be to a general HM-0000 billet and the 8479 NEC removed by the CHNAVPERS.
