General Info: Equipment Operators are construction workers who operate heavy transportation and construction equipment such as trucks, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, forklifts, cranes and asphalt equipment. This is a five year enlistment program.

What They Do: The duties performed by EOs include: operating a wide variety of heavy-duty, self-propelled construction equipment for such projects as building construction, roadway construction and repair, pier construction, grading and excavation; performing minor maintenance on this equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation; serving as members of a crane crew to rig cable assemblies and change attachments for various lifting and pile?driving operations; preparing operational reports on equipment; preparing detailed estimates on labor and equipment requirements. operate rock crushing and well-drilling equipment; perform as blasters for construction projects.

Detailed List of Required Duties

ASVAB Score Requirements: AR+MC+AS=145

Other Requirements: Must have normal color perception. Must have normal hearing. 60 month obligation. High school diploma graduate or equivalent. Must be able to type 40 words per minute. Must have no record of conviction by civil court for any offense other than minor traffic.

Notes: Normal hearing required. Frequencies: 3000hz 4000hz 5000hz 6000hz Average hearing threshold level in these four frequencies must be less than 30db, with no level greater than 45db in any one frequency. If hearing level exceeds these limits, the applicant is enlistment ineligible for the rating.

Technical Training Information: Enlistees are taught the fundamentals of this rating through formal Navy schooling. Advanced technical and operational training is available in this rating during later stages of career development.

EO A Fort Leonard Wood, MO 92

Basic operating techniques of common construction and automotive equipment and basic combat skills. Group instruction. After completion of "A" school, people in this rating can expect assignment to a Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) in Port Hueneme, CA or Gulfport, MS, or to an Amphibious Construction Battalion (ACB) in San Diego, CA or Little Creek, VA. NMCBs operate on a rotating basis, averaging seven months in home port and seven months deployed to overseas locations such as Spain, Puerto Rico or Guam. Seabees receive additional specialized combat and construction skills training during home port duty. Seabees construct buildings, roadways, pier facilities, utility systems and other shore facilities to support operational forces for the Navy and Marines.

Working Environment: Equipment operators work mostly outdoors where they are subject to extremes of temperature and weather in all parts of the world. They often perform in teams and do mostly physical work.
