The following medical conditions could result in initiation of a Medical Evaluation Board (MEB), and could result in medical discharge:

Active tuberculosis, where curative therapy requires 15 or more months.

Symptoms of chronic or recurrent pulmonary disease, or residuals of surgery, which preclude satisfactory performance of duty. These may include:

Significant fatigue or dyspnea on mild exertion supported by appropriate pulmonary function and blood gas studies.

Requirement for an inordinate amount of medical observation or care over prolonged periods.

Recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax when the underlying defect is not correctable by surgery.

Pneumonectomy.

Asthma, recurrent bronchospasm, or reactive airway disease, unless due to well defined avoidable precipitant cause.
