MOS 9676, International Relations Officer

a. Summary. International relations officers direct, supervise, conduct, or participate in studies and analyses relating to national security and world affairs.

b. Requirements/Prerequisites

(1) Assigned as an additional MOS only by the CMC (M) to officers upon completion of the prescribed course of instruction under the provisions of SEP, the advanced degree program, or an equivalent postgraduate degree at a comparable accepted institution.

(2) This MOS may also be assigned as an additional MOS, upon request and approval, to officers possessing a postgraduate degree acquired prior to entry into the service or through off-duty educational efforts.

c. Duties

(1) Directs, supervises, conducts, or participates in studies and analyses of social, economic, and military matters as related to national affairs in the world arena based on a broad knowledge of political theory and systems.

(2) Maintains knowledge of the growth and development of events and institutions relating to the contemporary world to provide a basis for projecting current and future trends.

(3) Develops and coordinates professional reading programs and research in the areas of history, economics, and policies, in addition to monitoring pertinent new foreign and domestic materials on these subjects, when required.
