Summary. ALTIS specialist responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum of digital communication and computer network information systems operation, analysis, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair in support of SNAP III, NTCSS, and JMCIS programs. The ALTIS Specialist are experts in the deployment of tactical local and wide area networks to any theater of operation. Duties include; the movement of all network based information systems from garrison to shipboard to forward deployed elements, maintaining and repairing data communication links, TCP/IP network design and installation, TCP/IP network administration, fiber optic/tactical fiber optic employment, maintenance and repair. ALTIS Specialists support a myriad of computer and network operating systems to include; Unix, Windows, Vines, Netware (IPX), TCP/IP. Responsibilities include the maintenance and repair of aircraft mission planning systems, aircraft maintenance systems and field deployable SATCOM equipment.

Requirements/Prerequisites

(1) Must possess an EL score of 105 or higher.

(2) Complete the Aviation Logistics Tactical Information Systems (ALTIS) Specialist Course.

(3) Must have a confidential security clearance.

(4) Must be a U.S. citizen.

(5) Must have normal color perception.

Duties

(1) GySgt to Pvt:

(a) Utilizes general theory and principles of AC/DC electricity, motors, generators, synchros, and seryosystems.

(b) Utilizes electronic schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, color codes, and other technical data contained in appropriate technical publications pertaining to computer equipment.

(c) Utilizes basic theory of digital computers.

(d) Observes shop safety precautions when working on dynamic components under test and in areas where dangerous voltages or conditions exist.

(e) Demonstrates a working knowledge of first aid procedures to be used in an emergency.

(f) Assembles and disassembles computer systems for deployment.

(g) performs periodic maintenance as required by maintenance manuals/directives.

(h) Performs repairs within the limits of the maintenance requirements commands.

(i) Maintains repair history log.

(2) GySgt to Cpl:

(a) Requisitions replacement parts and necessary supplies using applicable publications and supply documents.

(b) Interprets and uses information contained in maintenance manuals.

(c) Maintains a current technical publications library.

(3) GySgt to Sgt:

(a) Plans, organizes, and schedules maintenance of AIS equipment and compiles data for reports concerning performance and maintenance of equipment.

(4) GySgt and SSgt:

(a) Records data on magnetic tape and/or disk, stores data sequence tape transports, and encodes and decodes digital data for use on data link.

(b) Maintains and recommends changes to the applicable consolidated shipboard allowance list for the supported systems.

(5) GySgt:

(a) Directs the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance effort per the functions and missions of the installation to which assigned.

(b) Assists in the preparation and checkout of computer programs.
