Public Affairs Specialists serve as the primary communications link between our service and its many publics—the news media, the surrounding community, other military services, government agencies and our own internal audience. As one of only 77 PAs serving the Coast Guard today, you will apply your skills in media relations, journalism, Web design, photography, videography, public speaking, and desktop publishing to inform the public of important Coast Guard-related news and issues.

Qualifications:

The ability to communicate with clear, accurate speech and writing is a must. You need an excellent command of the English language and should be able to work effectively in a variety of media and situations. School courses in English, journalism, Web design, speech, photography and typing are highly desirable. Experience with computers and video is also advantageous. Preferred traits are attentiveness, initiative, creativity, people skills and poise under pressure.

ASVAB Score Requirements: VE+AR OF 110 (MINIMUM VE OF 60)

Training:

You will receive entry-level training in an intensive 12-week course held at the in Ft. Meade, MD.
