Bonus "CAPS" of $20,000
The Army offers monetary bonuses for soldiers who agree to re-enlist in "shortage" MOSs (jobs).
The amount of bonus depends on the "Multiplier" assigned to the MOS, the individual's rank, the member's time in service, and the number of years the individual re-enlists for. In some cases, the bonus multiplier also depends on where the individual is stationed.
The Bonus "Zone" is simply the amount of time the person has been in the military:
For example, let's say the Bonus chart shows the following information:
This means that a specialist/corporal (E-4) who re-trained into this MOS, with between 17 months and 6 years of service (Zone A) at the time of re-enlistment would have a "Bonus Multiplier" of "1.5." A Sergeant (E-5) who re-trained into this MOS with between 17 months and 6 years of service (Zone A) would have a "Bonus Multiplier" of "1." If the Sergeant had between 6 years and 10 years of service (Zone B), he/she would have a "Bonus Multiplier of "1.5." There is no bonus authorized here for a Sergeant with between 10 and 14 years of service. A Staff Sergeant (E-6) with less than six years of service (Zone A) would have a "Bonus Multiplier" of "2." The same Staff Sergeant would have a "Bonus Multiplier" of "3" if he/she had between 6 and 10 years of service (Zone B), and a bonus multiplier of "4" if he/she had between 10 and 14 years of service (Zone C).
The formula to compute the bonus amount is:
Below are the Bonus Multipliers established by the Army for the Army Re-enlistment Bonus Program for MOS's which have a maximum bonus cap of $20,000.
Bonuses are paid in Lump Sum, at the time of re-enlistment. This list is current as of June 8, 2005, and the bonus amounts are effective for re-enlistments after Jun 8, 2005.
Bonuses are subject to change. For the very latest in enlistment bonuses, check the Army MILPER Messages.
Note: For soldiers with an ETS (Estimated Time of Separation) that falls between 6 January 2006 and 30 September, 2006, the multipliers shown below are increased by 0.5. For solders with an ETS between 1 October 2006 and 30 September 2007, the bonus multipliers shown below are increased by 1.5.
For any soldier who has an ETS between 6 January 2006, and 30 September 2007, the bonus caps (shown above) are increased by $7,500. So, a soldier with an ETS between these dates who reenlist in Zone A has a bonus cap of $17,500, and a soldier who reenlists in Zone B or C has a bonus cap of $22,500. For complete details, see Army MILPER Message 06-007.
