Duties: Manages activities and personnel engaged in forward and intermediate direct support maintenance (IDS) maintenance level repair of small arms and forward field artillery weapons. Directs procedures for the identification and troubleshooting of malfunctions in electrical, hydraulic, fire control, and instrument items. Establishes evacuation and replacement procedures of such items that are unserviceable and beyond the repair capabilities of forward support and IDS companies. Manages quality assurance and production control programs to ensure established work standards are met and repairs are made on a timely basis. Administers the Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS) and the Maintenance Reporting and Management System (MRMS). Administers regulations and procedures pertaining to physical security, accountability, and shipment of weapons. Directs contact teams in support of field units and activities. Establishes and directs a shop safety program. Establishes a technical library and examines, interprets, and disseminates technical material, including orders and bulletins.

Minimum prerequisites:

  • Be a SGT(P) (E5P) or above with six years field experience in MOS 45B, 45G, or 45K (Recruiting, Drill Sergeant and other non-technical duties are not considered field experience) (USAR, Army National Guard: Civilian experience related to MOS 913A will be taken into consideration).
  • BNCOC graduate from a feeder MOS.
  • Provide a hard (paper) copy of at least three NCOERs which reflect recent outstanding and exceptional duty performance ratings in a maintenance supervisory capacity. Copy of three NCOERs must be provided even if already on service member's fiche.
  • Enclose a written recommendation from a Warrant Officer from within the applicant's organization who holds the WO MOS the applicant is applying for. In organizations where no WO in the correct MOS is available, a letter of recommendation from a senior WO in the correct MOS from a supporting maintenance unit can be substituted.

Preferred qualifications (Minimum plus):

  • SSG with 7-9 years experience in feeder MOS with three years being supervisory. Have 30 college credit hours or vocational training in electronics or computers.
  • Applicants exceeding 12 years Active Federal Service (AFS) at the time of application submission must be approved by HQDA.
  • Have completed a minimum of six credit hours of college level English. (Successful completion of the English College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is the only acceptable substitute). Speech is not considered an English substitute.
