Duties: Acquires, coordinates, interprets, and analyzes terrain data, to include the effects of weather on terrain related capabilities/limitations of enemy and friendly ground forces. Designs and develops terrain analysis support graphics which will best meet the needs of combat and combat support units. Supervises the preparation of complex terrain factor overlays and special purpose graphics to be used as decision aids by commanders. Coordinates graphic and textual analysis and development, and supervises the preparation for limited dissemination. Identifies requirements to support terrain analysis projects. Analyzes the effects of weather factors affecting terrain mobility/usability for ground forces operation. Briefs commanders at all levels on analysis results providing recommendations as appropriate. Develops automated and manual filing and documentation systems for appropriate Military Geographic Information (MGI). Develops procedures to efficiently store, retrieve, and process MGI expediently. Supervises the use and operation MICROFIX and other computer aided equipment in support of terrain analysis requirements. Coordinates with Staff Weather Officer (SWO) all requirements for critical weather information. May be employed as a service school instructor. Performs other officer level duties essential to mission of assigned unit.

Minimum prerequisites:

  • Be a SGT (E5) or above
  • Four years experience in MOS 81T (81Q)
  • One year 81T (81Q) experience at division level
  • Two years experience supervising terrain analysis activities
  • Must have a Special Background Investigation (SBI) within the last five years
  • Eligible to access Sensitive Compartmented Information prior to admission to WOCS
  • Successful completion or constructive credit for the Basic and Advanced Terrain Analysis Courses

Preferred qualifications (Minimum plus):

  • Two years of college credit at an accredited institution
  • More than one year experience at division level and more than two years experience supervising terrain analysis activities
