Branch description. Plans and directs the activities of Army units and organizations engaged in one or more of the following activities:

(1) Materiel management and maintenance of armament, tank and ground mobility equipment, wheeled and general purpose vehicles, ground support materiel, and other mechanical equipment and associated nonmechanical equipment except for medical, aerial delivery, and cryptographic materiel.

(2) Materiel management and maintenance of missile/electronic systems materiel including missile rounds and associated guidance launching, handling and test equipment; command and control systems; directed energy systems; and logistics space systems; and test measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

(3) Materiel management and maintenance of conventional and nuclear munitions and warheads, and associated maintenance, test and handling equipment.

(4) Detection, identification, rendering safe, recovery, or destruction of hazardous U.S. and foreign munitions. Advises the commander on logistical matters and the unit capability to perform its mission. Performs in a variety of positions related to materiel management involving activities such as organizational, direct, and general support maintenance, production control, calibration, repair parts supply, quality assurance/quality control, (QA/QC), technical assistance, coordination, training and research and development. Responsible for logistical training in coordination with the S3 or G3. Maintains necessary liaison concerning logistical activities.

Ordnance, General (91A).

Description of duties. This is a position code only. An officer who fills this position will serve as a commander or staff officer of an organization with responsibility for two or more ordnance-related functions. Duties and responsibilities deal with general ordnance-related activities rather than more specific functions which pertain to only one Ordnance Area of Concentration.

Special qualifications. None.

Special grading of positions. For positions coded MAJ and above.

Unique duty positions.

(a) Assistant Chief of Staff, Maintenance.

(b) Commander, Multifunctional Support Unit.

(c) Corps Support Command Materiel Management Officer.

(d) Ordnance Staff Officer, Logistics Center.

Maintenance Management (91B).

Description of duties. Commands or serves as a staff officer or manager in a unit, activity, or organization which provides maintenance or logistical support for all types of Army materiel. As a staff officer, formulates policy, and directs and coordinates staff functions related to maintenance and logistics-associated activities of the command. Serves in multifunctional positions at all levels of maintenance primarily engaged in direct support/general support maintenance of tanks, TMDE, electronic equipment, vehicles, air defense artillery weapons systems, land combat support systems and associated equipment.

Special qualifications. Must have completed the Ordnance Maintenance Management Officer Basic Course, Advanced Course with Automotive Track, or technical qualification course or have waiver from the Commandant, U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School.

Special grading of positions. Company Commander positions in Special Weapons Ordnance Missile Materiel Company, DS/GS will be graded MAJ.

Unique duty positions.

(a) Platoon Leader.

(b) Maintenance Officer.

(c) Materiel Management Officer.

(d) Maintenance Management Officer.

(e) Materiel Officer.

(f) Operations Officer.

(g) Director of Maintenance.

Munitions Materiel Management (91D).

Description of duties. Commands or serves as a staff officer of units or activities engaged in direct and general support mainte­nance of light air defense missile/weapon systems and supporting radars; air defense and land combat missile systems, and associated guidance launch handling, and test equipment; electronic command and control systems, directed energy systems; and logistics space systems. Serves in command and staff positions involving logistical aspects of missile/electronics systems materiel.

Special qualification. Must have completed the Missile Materiel Officer Basic Course, Advanced Course with Missile Track or technical qualification course or have a waiver from the Commandant, U.S. Army Ordnance, Missile and Munitions Center and School, Redstone Arsenal, AL.

Special grading of positions. Company Commander positions in Special Weapon’s Ordnance Company, Ammunition, DS/GS and Ordnance Company, Ammunition, DS/GS will be graded MAJ.

Unique duty positions.

(a) Missile Support Company/Detachment Commander.

(b) Missile Maintenance Officer.

(c) Electronic Maintenance Officer.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (91E).

Description of duties. Commands or serves as a staff officer of units or activities responsible for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operations or control. EOD functions include the locating, rendering safe, removing and subsequent disposing and salvaging of unexploded conventional and special explosive ordnance (nuclear, biological and chemical munitions).

Special qualifications. Must have completed Ammunition Officer Basic, Advanced with Munitions Track, and/or technical qualification course or have a waiver from the Commandant, USAOMMCS, Redstone Arsenal, AL. Must have completed all three phases of EOD training (Phase I at USAOMMCS and Phases II and III at the U.S. Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School).

Special grading of positions. None.

Unique duty position.

(a) EOD Control Center Commander.

(b) Technical Escort.
