Branch description. Encompasses positions which provides fire support to maneuver elements through the tactical and opera­tional employment of field artillery systems. Commands, directs, and controls field artillery units at all levels. Directs technical fire control and firing operations using both manual and computer techniques. Coordinates the collective employment of joint and combined fire support assets to include non-lethal systems in support of the combined arms commander. Participates in the planning and development of doctrine, organization, training, material, leadership, and soldier initiatives to support the field artillery’s role in com­bined arms operations.

Field Artillery, General (13A).

Description of duties. Commands or assists the commander of field artillery units. Plan, coordinates, and directs field artillery ac­tivities within the command. Serves in positions requiring knowl­edge of field artillery systems, experience at various staff levels.

Special qualifications. Must have completed the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course. Must use the basic knowledge gained in that course to conduct successful field artillery operations and as a building block for future training and experience.

Special grading of positions. None.

Unique duty positions. Fire Direction Officer/Counterfire Officer.
