Branch description. Encompasses leadership and staff positions concerned with the training and tactical employment of tank or armored reconnaissance units. Evaluates intelligence, estimates situ­ations, formulates courses of action and makes decisions, coordinates employment of unit with other units (to include combat aviation). Commands attached elements. Directs communications, location and construction of positions, and camouflaging of posi­tions and equipment. Directs operations and employment of tanks, armored vehicles, support infantry, and related equipment. Directs training, administration, supply maintenance, transportation, and security activities of the unit.

Branch qualifications. DA Pam 600-3 lists qualifications for entry and professional development in this branch.

Armor, General (12A).

Description of duties. Performs in leadership or staff positions which require skills involving general armor field knowledge.

Special qualifications. Must have appropriate training in both tank and reconnaissance weapon systems (employed as combined arms unit) at the Armor School, or equivalent training or experience.

Special grading of positions. The Recon Platoon Leader in a Ranger Regiment will be graded CPT.

Unique duty positions. None.

Armor (12B).

Description of duties. Performs in leadership or staff positions of tank units or tank specific positions at higher headquarters.

Special qualifications. Requires completion of the 12B (tank tactics) track of the Armor Officer Basic Course or equivalent train­ing or experience.

Special grading of positions. None.

Unique duty positions. None.

Cavalry (12C).

Description of duties. Performs in leadership or staff positions of Armor Reconnaissance units or cavalry specific positions at higher headquarters.

Special qualifications. Requires completion of Scout Leader Course, Calvary Leaders Course, or a minimum of 12 months actual experience as a cavalry officer (AOC 12C).

Special grading of positions. Divisional Cavalry Squadron HHT Commander (MAJ).

Unique duty positions. None.
